Alt tags

The alt tag provides alternative details of an image if the image is not viewable. This tag is required for image element in HTML (w3schools, 2023). Google's image article mentions alt text as an important feature and plays a great role to identify the content of the image and surrounding text, resulting in higher SEO rankings (Valk, 2019).

We can see the alt tag for left hand thumbnail alt="Rishi Sunak" as an example from BBC website homepage.

Title tag

The title tag provides a title to a webpage for browsers and search engines which can only be used once in a webpage.

We can view the title tag of an article of BBC as an example.
